Music & Improv Workshop by Sanjay Joseph – 19th Aug

Sanjay Joseph is an artist. The guitar is his exoskeleton. When you see him articulating on his instrument, you experience unity between the body and the soul.

He started young and, after paying his dues in various musical situations (including stints with various rock/ jazz bands, artist luminaries like Ranjit Barot, Louis Banks, KK and A R Rahman, he conceived The Shibumi Dojo – a composite expression that straddles the worlds of music, nutrition, spirituality, discipline and abandonment. It has been an old and long journey, with the first ideas of the album being planted in 2004-2005. This is a voice in music that will stay with you in mysterious ways.

The Shibumi Dojo is a story-melody fortified by a rhythmic foundation that dares the rock and jazz idiom in a way that is not done often. It will rock you and make you think.

Workshop Content :

1) Fretboard Mapping- Major scale and Pentatonics – When asked to a play a scale most students play fragments from familiar sections of the board. Fretboard mapping will help the student see and learn the fretboard as a whole and apply this method to learn any scale all over the fretboard.

3) Time- Understanding and breaking down rhythm to the 16th note.
4) Modes- Demystifying this elusive tool so that the student can get to use it to start improvising.
5) Improvisation- Using all the above to create melodies and improvise/ jam over simple chord progressions.

The above 5 topics+ more will be covered along with a Q&A.
